Psoriasis Diet

Changing what you eat can make all the difference in the world, especially if you have psoriasis. The body is filled with toxins from the air we breathe to the food we eat. The best way to remove these toxins is through the urine and not through the skin; this is especially important for sufferers of psoriasis.

If you are diagnosed with psoriasis, it is best to change your eating habits as soon as possible to alleviate the symptoms. Eating whole foods as opposed to processed foods is a good start. You want to keep the toxins in the system to a minimum and this can be done by eating organic produce instead of produce grown using pesticides. If organic food is out of your reach, make sure to at least to wash off fruits and vegetables well to remove all the chemicals.

Raw is the best way to consume vegetables because they lose some nutrients when cooked. Raw vegetables are higher in fiber and are easy for the digestive system to process. Some foods that are easy for the digestive system to process are beans, seafood, nuts, green, leafy vegetables, and fresh fruit. The more fruit and vegetables that are in your diet the less likely you are to develop allergies.

Fats are normally not great for your body, but they body does need a small amount of fatty acids to properly function. Fatty acids play a part in eliminating and reducing inflammation. Some of the best fatty acids you can add to the diet are cold water fish, flaxseed, and green leafy vegetables.

High sodium food is not good for you and it can leave you dehydrated. Not all salt is created equal. Switching out your refined salt with sea salt is more natural, healthy choice.  Natural sea salt will raise your energy, help relieve the symptoms of allergies and rashes, protect against radiation, balance the acid in the body, give you important minerals, add resistance to infection, and replace lost electrolytes.

Types of Psoriasis

If you have ever dealt with psoriasis you know the feeling of struggling with red, itchy, scaly skin. Do you know what type of psoriasis you have? Were you even aware there were more than just one type? There are, in fact, three main types of psoriasis and although the basic symptoms are the same, they are all a little bit different.

All forms of psoriasis affect the skin. They can cause a few different problems and if you are lucky they will only cause one problem at a time. Psoriasis is famous for the redness of skin and the shedding. There are two layers of skin, the top and bottom. The top layer is the old skin, it lasts for a few weeks and then begins to shed off on its own. The bottom layer is the new skin growth that takes over for the shedding skin. Shedding skin is a normal procedure, but it happens over time so that we don’t notice.

In psoriasis, we notice because the bottom lay tries to move up to the top before the top is ready to shed. This leaves cracks in the skin and gives it that red look. On top of that, the skin may start to become inflamed. If you scratch at the skin while it is flaky, red, and peeling, you could get weeping lesions and scaling on the affected area.

Those are the main symptoms for the basic three types of psoriasis: Guttate, Plaque, and Seborrheic. Plaque Psoriasis is the most common type of the disease. Each person is different, but for the most part it appears as patchy, thick flaky skin that causes itching and inflammation. If the skin is damaged skin gets injured in some other way, it is easily infected.

Guttate Psoriasis mainly affects children and young adults. It often follows after a bout of strep throat or other infections and causes red bumps on the skin. This form is often misdiagnosed as an allergic reaction rash or a fever rash. The good news is that it clears up with antibiotics, the kind taken for the strep, and it almost never comes back again.

Seborrheic Psoriasis is often mistaken for a serious cause of dandruff because it affects the scalp, ears, hairline, and forehead. Some medicated shampoos work to eliminate the flaking, but it can still be problematic.

Psoriasis Symptons

Have you ever wondered if your dry, patchy skin is simply dry skin or something much worse? Have people told you, you could have psoriasis and now you are curious? Is your dandruff out of control and you are worried it might be something more? Well, there are some very basic signs and symptoms to look for if you are curious. The best diagnosis will come from a doctor, but in the meantime, below are listed some common symptoms of psoriasis.

For the most part, psoriasis is red or pinkish patches of thick, raised, and/or dry skin. The most common areas affected are the scalp, elbows, and knees. Of courses, psoriasis is not picky, and it will gladly affect any area of the body it sees fit. Psoriasis is more likely to appear where there skin is injured. Areas of trauma, constant rubbing or scratching, and abrasions or scratches can cause flare-ups.

Psoriasis can look different depending on each individual person. There can be small bumps or large areas of patchy, raised skin. The area can also have red patches or areas of flaky skin that is easily wiped off. If the small areas of dry skin or picked at or scratched they may start to bleed; this is another sign of psoriasis.

Psoriasis in the genital areas is common too and the area should be dealt with gently. Keep the area clean and don’t pick or scratch at the skin. If the psoriasis shows up in moist areas like the belly button, genitals or between the buttocks, the patches will appear to be simply flat, red patches of skin. These areas can then make the psoriasis appear to be some other infection and overlooked.

Psoriasis can also affect the skin under or around the nails. These will appear as small, white spots on the nail or as large yellowish-brown areas in the nail bed. This type of psoriasis can cause the nails to crack or break easily and, in some cases, cause the nails to fall off.

Psoriasis of the scalp will appear to be a severe case of dandruff with white, flaky skin stuck in the hair or falling on the shoulders. This form can be difficult to hide and can be an embarrassment when it gets out of control.

Psoriasis Natural Treatment

Seeking relief from psoriasis can be a lifelong quest. You can search everywhere for the perfect cure and never quite find it. There are plenty of medications, creams, pastes, gels, and lotions out there, but they don’t always work and they can be pricy. It gets time consuming and expensive to dab a lotion all over the body two to three times a day or take a pill every day.  Most people just want something that is quick, simple, cheap, and works.

There are actually some things you can start doing for yourself that might help with psoriasis and slow down the onset of another outbreak. Things you can change around the house or personally, that don’t cost you an extra cent.

In your home, try to find the perfect temperature. Flare-ups can be caused by changes in the weather or temperatures in your own home. Going from one extreme to the next is never a good thing. Slowly let your body adjust to warmer temperatures or colder ones. Too much sweat on the body, can lead to irritation and itching which leads to scratching which can cause skin injuries which will lead to flare ups. Most of the time is spent at home or in the office, so make sure you have both places set at your perfect temperature. It can take some time to find that temperature and other people may have to adjust to it but it will help you in the long run. Temperature control may be easier at home than it is at work.

Apply moisturizer often during the day. The moisturizer should be of good quality and fragrance free. Smelly lotion, the good scents, is a favorite among women, but it can actually irritate the skin. Avoid the pricy fruit smelling lotions and opt for one that offers a good amount of moisture. Always remember to lotion up after you shower or bath to help keep that moisture locked in.

Switch to all-natural products. This means everything you use from hand soap to makeup should be fragrant free and all natural. Look for products that are hypoallergenic and are free and clear of irritants. Change your laundry detergent to a free and clear type brand.

Beat Psoriasis

Being diagnosed with psoriasis is not the end of the world, though it may be a huge blow. Psoriasis is a skin disease that causes unsightly dry and patchy skin. Many people will tell you there is no cure for psoriasis, and in some cases they would be right. However, there are some natural ways you can heal yourself, forever.

Before you can take steps to beat psoriasis, you first need to figure out what is causing the problem in the first place. Psoriasis can be caused by many different factors or a number of factors all mixed together. There is no one size fits all cause of psoriasis, each person is different and is affected differently.

The most common factor is genetic disposition. Take a look at your family tree and see if there are any reported cases of psoriasis, if so that may be where your psoriasis came from.

Another symptom can be a calcium deficiency. If your body is not getting enough calcium it can actually bring on symptoms of psoriasis. This problem is easily solved by increasing your intake of calcium through more dairy products or calcium supplements. In order for your body to properly process and breakdown the calcium you may need some Vitamin D.

Next, take a look at your stress level. Stress is often times related to the onslaught of psoriasis and can exacerbate the symptoms. Some people are not affected by stress whatsoever, and others say their outbreaks are worse when they are under large amounts of stress.

If stress is an issue, take steps to avoid becoming too stressed. Learn stress management techniques. Take time to relax. Try meditation or other stress relieving activities. Exercise more, even if that means simply taking a brisk walk around the neighborhood. Exercise is shown to boost energy levels and help relieve stress. Talking things out with other people helps release stress as well; keeping things inside and to yourself only adds to the stress.

Psoriasis is a very bad skin condition if it flares severely. Only the patient knows what he/she is undergoing. There is no way to share the trauma of skin falling and itching. Psoriasis- acceptance

To accept that I have psoriasis and it will not go away for my lifetime is the first step. When we get stressed, we trigger more of psoriasis. Better to keep calm. Let psoriasis be there on the body. Try to take attention away from it. Use the medicines as directed and stop worrying about it. Asking repeatedly- why me, will not help. Everyone has some pain. We have psoriasis. Let us accept it. If you suffer from psoriasis, you must have experienced that when psoriasis flares up, you get mentally disturbed. It beats us in both the directions. But we have to conquer it. The only way is to surrender to it without any resistance.

Psoriasis- think of other things

Thinking of Psoriasis will be of no help. That does not cure it. That worsens it. Better to think of other things in life. Try to achieve goals and love. Try to love others. Make life better. There is no other way out of a disease, which will be a lifelong companion. Make friends with it, because it will never leave you.

Many of us get very disheartened after trying many medications. We find that psoriasis returns. Some of the treatments are very troublesome and messy. Others have side effects.
